Winter Fun 2010 | Another favorite winter pastime is snowmobiling. Last year we featured the Big Horns Jeep Jamboree held at the Bear Lodge just outside of Dayton Wyoming. The place was so beautiful in the summer and the owners and staff members at Bear Lodge were so much fun I wanted to head back this winter to see the mountain with several feet of snow on it. The folks up there were so accommodating and offered to make sure I saw the best of the Big Horns if I came back in the winter that I just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to do so. Bear Lodge is a full season operation; in the summer they can schedule you a guided horseback ride as well as quad rentals and trails that go all over the mountain in addition to the Jeep Jamboree. |

Big Horn Mountains Kayaking | It’s that time again and with the temperatures melting the snow caps off of the mountain peaks around the country it is time to trade the skis for the kayaks and camping gear and decide which direction to head for some paddling. This year we headed out to the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota for some paddling. This part of the country has had an enormous amount of snowfall this winter so we knew we would be able to find the creeks and rivers full and flowing. It just came down to rounding up a few friends and deciding which direction to head. |

Devils Bathtub | Hiking is another of the favorite past times where we like to climb into the Jeeps and enjoy a trip to the trailhead before going out on the trail for a day hike. There is a nice little hike in the Black Hills of South Dakota that has seen several generations of hikers over the years and still gets plenty of traffic from the locals and a surprising amount of travelers that seem to know how to find it even though it isn’t marked anywhere from the road. |
