| DAY SIX... | |||
| May 15, 2007 | Columbia, TN |
Total Distance Today: 0 miles |
Distance Remaining: 1,826 miles |
Today we had to take a day and work on getting things caught up because we have started to fall behind on our journaling. We also needed to get the hitch on the jeep repaired since the hitch mount is pretty well torn away from the frame. We started the morning off by getting on the phone to try and find someone that could make some company logos for us since we wanted to put our name (JeepBrokers) on the Jeep as well as a little bit of information on how far our journey will be. We called a couple of places and the companies that we did get a hold of were either too busy or unwilling to make our decals. We got in touch with the folks at Auto Trim Design in Columbia and they were most helpful in making our decals, and were more than fair for what they charged us.
From there we had to find a place that could help us with the hitch and frame situation. We headed back towards the main part of town and happened to see Custom Tinting & Off-Road, an off road shop, so we decided to pull in and see if they could help us out. As soon as we walked through the door we heard the guy at the counter telling a customer that their schedule was full and that they had no room for any more appointments, our hopes were dashed but we decided to ask anyway. Once we introduced ourselves to Darryl Jones and explained our situation, he asked if we could stop back by in a couple hours and they would help us out. After grabbing a little lunch we headed back over and as promised they got us in and went straight to work. As soon as we pulled the Jeep into the shop, the first thing we noticed was this incredible buggy that almost drew our attention away from the problem that we were so distressed about getting fixed.
Mike Woodard immediately went into action straightening the bent metal and prepping the area for some added support and repair welding. He even added an extra support behind the frame to make sure that we wouldn’t have any trouble on the rest of our trip. While we were waiting for Mike to work his magic, Jason Kennedy (the electronics guru) showed us some video of the wheeling that these guys get to do. We really wanted to stay longer to see some of the area and get the chance to wheel with these guys and their killer buggy’s. Unfortunately, we had well over one thousand miles to travel yet and time wouldn’t allow it. If any one is in this area of Tennessee and hasn’t visited these guys, or if you happen to be passing through, we highly suggest that you take the time to pay them a visit. They do it all, from window tinting, GPS systems, stereos, hitches and just about any type of vehicle accessory that you can think of. If you want a bad-ass buggy and just need someone to build it for you…… you've got to check them out. They can be reached at 931-381-5466, let them know you saw them here at JeepBrokers.com.
From there it was back to the hotel where we still had plenty of work to do before we would be able to be ready to get back on the road in the morning. We put the new decals on the Jeep and went to work on the website again. All in all, our time in Columbia was most enjoyed and if time had allowed, we sure would have liked to have been able to spend just a few more days there.
